Prophet Elijah (Israel) · −870 – −850

  1. 1. Tishbe −870 – −870

From Gilead, east of the Jordan, Elijah comes before King Ahab and declares that there will be no rain or dew except by his word.

  2. 2. Kerith −869 – −869

God sends him to hide by this brook, where ravens bring him bread and meat every morning and evening, until the brook runs dry.

  3. 3. Zarephath −868 – −866

In Jezebel's home country a poor widow shares her last flour with him. Her jar and jug never run out, and he brings her son back to life.

  4. 4. Mount Carmel −865 – −865

He challenges the prophets of Baal before all Israel. Their altar stays cold; fire falls on his. The people cry: the Lord is God. Then the rain comes.

  5. 5. Jezreel −865 – −865

He runs ahead of Ahab's chariot to the royal city in the storm. Jezebel swears to kill him within a day.

  6. 6. Beersheba −865 – −865

He flees south, leaves his servant, and lies down in the desert asking to die. An angel wakes him and gives him bread and water.

  7. 7. Horeb −864 – −864

Forty days he walks to the mountain of Moses. Wind, earthquake and fire pass, and God is in none of them, but in a still, small voice.

  8. 8. Abel-meholah −863 – −855

He finds Elisha ploughing with twelve yoke of oxen and casts his mantle over him. Elisha burns his plough and follows him.

  9. 9. The Jordan −850 – −850

He strikes the river with his mantle and the two cross on dry ground. A chariot of fire parts them, and Elijah goes up to heaven in a whirlwind.
