1. Ararat −2400 – −2350
The ark comes to rest on the mountains of Ararat. Shem steps out with his father and brothers; Noah blesses him later as the one whose God is the Lord.
2. Shinar −2349 – −2269
The families move to the plain of Shinar and build a city and a tower. The languages are confused there, and the people scatter across the earth.
3. Salem −2200 – −1898
The Torah does not say where Shem himself settled. The Sages identify him with Melchizedek, king of Salem, who blessed Abraham, and speak of the study house of Shem.
