- 1. Ur −2018 – −1950
Abram grows up in this great Sumerian city. His father Terah takes the family and sets out towards Canaan.
- 2. Haran −1949 – −1944
The family settles here and Terah dies. God calls Abram: leave your land and your father's house, and I will make of you a great nation.
- 3. Shechem −1943 – −1943
His first stop in Canaan, at the oak of Moreh. God promises this land to his descendants, and Abram builds an altar.
- 4. Bethel −1943 – −1942
Moving south through the hills, he pitches his tent between Bethel and Ai and builds another altar.
- 5. Egypt −1941 – −1940
Famine drives him down to Egypt. Fearing for his life, he calls Sarai his sister, and she is taken to Pharaoh's house until plagues set her free.
- 6. Bethel −1939 – −1939
Back at his altar, now rich in flocks. His herdsmen quarrel with Lot's, so uncle and nephew part: Lot goes to the Jordan plain, Abram stays in Canaan.
- 7. Hebron −1938 – −1920
At the oaks of Mamre he makes his home. Here God seals the covenant, renames him Abraham, and three visitors announce that Sarah will bear a son.
- 8. Gerar −1919 – −1919
In the land of the Philistines, King Abimelech takes Sarah, believing her to be his sister, and is warned in a dream to return her.
- 9. Beersheba −1918 – −1882
Abraham digs a well and swears an oath with Abimelech, giving the place its name. Isaac grows up here, and Hagar and Ishmael are sent away.
- 10. Moriah −1881 – −1881
God tells him to offer up his son. Abraham binds Isaac on the altar, and an angel stops his hand at the last moment. This is the Akedah.
- 11. Beersheba −1880 – −1880
Father and son return to the wells of Beersheba, where the family's life goes on.
- 12. Hebron −1878 – −1843
Sarah dies here. Abraham buys the Cave of Machpelah, his first piece of the promised land, and is buried there beside her.
