Joshua Leadership · −1406 – −1375

  1. 1. Shittim −1406 – −1406

Moses is dead and Joshua takes command on the plains of Moab. He sends two spies across the river, and Rahab hides them.

  2. 2. Jericho −1406 – −1406

The Jordan stops flowing and Israel crosses. They circle the city for seven days, the shofars sound, and the walls come down.

  3. 3. Ai −1405 – −1405

A first attack fails because of Achan's sin. The second succeeds, through an ambush behind the city.

  4. 4. Mount Ebal −1405 – −1405

In the heart of the land Joshua builds an altar and reads the whole Torah to the people, as blessings and curses ring out between two mountains.

  5. 5. Gibeon −1404 – −1404

The Gibeonites trick Israel into a treaty. When five kings attack them, Joshua marches through the night: sun, stand still at Gibeon.

  6. 6. Hazor −1400 – −1400

The kings of the north gather under Jabin. Joshua defeats them at the waters of Merom and burns Hazor, the greatest of those kingdoms.

  7. 7. Shiloh −1399 – −1380

The Tabernacle is set up here, and the land is divided by lot among the tribes.

  8. 8. Timnath-serah −1379 – −1375

He settles on his own portion in the hills of Ephraim. He gathers the people one last time, renews the covenant, and is buried here.
