According to Joshua 6, the Battle of Jericho marked the Israelites' first major conquest west of the Jordan River under Joshua's leadership. Following divine instructions, the Israelites marched around the fortified city for seven days before its walls collapsed, allowing them to capture Jericho. The victory symbolized the beginning of Israel's conquest of Canaan and the fulfillment of the biblical promise of the land to the descendants of Abraham.
