During the reign of King Saul, the Israelites confronted the Philistines, who maintained a powerful military presence in the region. Saul's son Jonathan and his armor-bearer launched a surprise attack on a Philistine outpost near Michmash, triggering panic throughout the enemy camp. Saul's forces exploited the confusion and drove the Philistines back. The victory strengthened Israel's resistance against Philistine domination during the early monarchy.
