Netanyahu returned as prime minister on December 29, 2022. His current period has been marked by major internal debate over judicial reform, deep political division, and the wars that followed the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack.

From a Jewish-history perspective, Netanyahu’s role is enormous because he is Israel’s longest-serving prime minister and has shaped much of Israel’s modern security, diplomacy, economy, and political identity. His legacy remains highly debated, especially because he has led Israel through some of its most difficult modern crises.
