"After him Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel; he judged Israel ten years. Then Elon the Zebulunite died and was buried at Aijalon in the land of Zebulun" (Judges 12:11–12). Nothing more is told of him: no enemies, battles or family. He is the only judge from Zebulun, a tribe in lower Galilee. Elon was also the name of one of Zebulun's clans (Genesis 46:14, Numbers 26:26).

In Hebrew his name and the place of his burial are written with the same consonants, so the town may have been named after him or his clan. This Aijalon in Zebulun, never identified, is different from the better-known valley of Aijalon west of Jerusalem, where Joshua bade the moon stand still (Joshua 10:12).
