Abishua, "my father is salvation", son of Phinehas and father of Bukki, appears only in genealogies: the list of the high priestly line from Aaron to the Babylonian exile (1 Chronicles 5:30–31) and the ancestry of Ezra the scribe (Ezra 7:5). The Bible records no deeds of his. Josephus, who calls him Abiezer, names him as high priest after Phinehas in the line of Eleazar that held office before the priesthood passed to Eli (Antiquities 5.361–362).

He is better remembered among the Samaritans. Their most treasured Torah scroll, kept in Nablus, is called the Abisha Scroll, and a note woven into its text claims it was written by "Abisha son of Phinehas son of Eleazar son of Aaron" at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting in the thirteenth year after Israel entered Canaan. Scholars date the scroll as it exists to the medieval period, though it may preserve older sections.
