According to biblical tradition, King Solomon built the First Temple in Jerusalem after the kingdom of Israel had been united under David. The Temple became the central place of worship for the Israelites, housing the Ark of the Covenant and serving as the main site for sacrifices, festivals, and priestly service. Its construction marked Jerusalem’s rise as the religious and political center of Israel. This traditional date is usually placed around the mid-10th century before the common count, during Solomon’s reign.
